To God be the glory

Today, I was reminded of the great old hymn: To God be the glory, great things He hath done. This afternoon, God called a dear man home to be with Him. To the world, Ed was a great man, young and full of potential. He was kind and generous to everyone he met. To those who believe, they could see God's love and grace reflected in his life. Now, a young wife is left without her husband and two young children are left without thier father. You may ask why would bad things happen to such a good person? I believe it all happens to further prove God's grace and sovereignty. Through Ed's physical suffering, several people have come to accept Christ as their Savior. I rejoice in the fact that even though times were tough, the family chose to focus on God's goodness and greatness. God has received glory through his suffering. I am also reminded that each breath that we breathe is only by God's allotment. We are not guaranteed our seventy-five or eighty years. While yes it is true that the average American man live to be 74 and the woman lives to be 78, this is not God's desire for each of us. I came across a former classmate who lost his son just hours after being born at 23 weeks, but then again, there are those that Willard Scott wishes happy birthday to every day. No matter the age, each day is a gift from God. God is no respector of persons with whom He chooses to render His blessings and trials. Each blessing and trial makes us rely on His strength and sufficiency. Why do bad things happen to good people? To God be the glory!
