Well, after a brief hiatus, I am back in the blogging world. My apologies to my faithful few who have been eagerly looking to no avail for updates. Last week, Scott worked crazy hours. He saw the kids on Sunday, Tuesday and then not again until Saturday, just after the Tigers won the ALCS. In that sentance alone, there are a couple oddities. Scott is pretty good about making sure that he sees the kids at some point during each day, but BMW has this massive event going on pretty much all month, so alas, he wasn't around much. Now, I understand that kids are inherantly sinful, but when things are off track and one of the parents is missing for a while, they act even more strange. I'm sure that most of you already know that, but I just experienced it for the first time in a while. Anyway, Lauren defiantely started to go through Daddy withdrawl. Then, I had bathed both of the kids and had them all ready for bed on Saturday night. We (the kids and I) were rocking in the recliner and both kids were almost asleep when Scott walked in through the door. Lauren nearly jumped out of her skin with pure excitement. Ryan was a little more subdued, but he was all grins.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the last paragraph, I said that the Tigers won the pennant. This is insane! Just a couple seasons ago, they had the worst record ever in the AL, and were only a couple games off from the worst record in MLB history. And now, here we stand, hopefully only a week or so away from the Tigers being World Champions. Oh to be in Motown.
Theennn.....There was this week. The Lord is continually showing me how much I need Him. Ryan's been on the verge of cutting his first teeth for the last couple of weeks. You know what I'm talking about. There's teething, and then, there's TEETHING, just before those pearly white appear. Well, Ryan's been in that final stage. I've been continually checking his mouth, but still no razor whites showing. Anyway, that to say, he hasn't been sleeping well at all. He's never been a big napper during the day, but he slept well at night. However, not only does he sleep for a total of 1 hour during the day, he's "sleeping" 11 hours at night, and that's generous. Sunday through Tuesday nights, he woke up on average about every 45 minutes. Sometimes, he just needed his pacifier. Other times, he needed to be covered with his blanket (unfortunately, that's my strong gene pulling through). Still, other times, he wanted to be rocked for a couple minutes. Lauren's been going through this thing, too, where she's not sleeping well at night either. When it rains, it pours. :) Anyway, I've been having to rely on the Lord for my strength. And just when I thought I grasped this lesson, Tuesday happened. Tuesdays, I have Bible Study at church in the AM. Well, after our study on Tuesday, we were having a luncheon. I had signed up to bring dessert. No big deal. Well, then someone else was out of town, so I told her that since she'd signed up for dessert too, I'd just make an extra one. Well, I was going to make a dessert fruit pizza for the adults and then make some cookies for the kids. On Monday night, I baked the dough on my Pampered Chef stoneware, but apparently, I spread the crust too thin. The dough spilled over onto the oven coils and the oven floor. By the time that the oven cooled, it was getting late, so I thought I'd just make the cookies in the morning before study. Well, Tuesday morning, I made sure all the dough was off the coils but left the stuff on the floor, thinking that the oven would only be on for 8 minutes, and what could happen in 8 minutes. Well, I turned the oven on, threw the cookies in the oven and then sat with Lauren on the porch while we watched it rain. I smelled something funny and went inside and the entire inside of the oven was in flames and smoke was just billowing out of the top of the stove. Everything ended up being okay, just some slightly burnt cookies. And all this happened by 8:00. That was just the start to my day. It was a crazy day. Both kids are now sick with colds (no wonder why... it was 70s last week, then down to the 60s, then the 50s on Tuesday, but then in the 80s yesterday and today). Then, in the precious hours of sleep that my kids do get, they are tearing up the asphalt and repaving the street today. Whatever. That's life. All I can say, is that without the Lord, I couldn't do any of it.

i'm right there with you. dalton is teething and my other two don't sleep all night due to needing to use the bathroom. dave's working at macp-so he isn't home much right now-but thankfully he's home a little. i'm sure you're glad it's over! =) our phrase during diaper change is "you wreak child" and auburn's rendition is cute and interesting.
