Softball and more softball

Last week, 2 of our softball leagues ended with losses. Thursday our co-ed league ended with hot tempers. We were losing in the 6th inning of our semi-finals game when the instigation started. A guy was on 1st and a girl was up to bat. She popped out, but the guy on 1st had already started taking off for 2nd. By the time he realized that he hadn't tagged up, the ball was in the air headed for the 1st basegirl's glove. The guy made a diving slide for 1st. Lucky for him, the ball got away from the girl and went out of play. The rule is the runner gets the base he was going to plus one. This would mean that the guy would get 1st, 'cause that's where he was headed, plus 2nd, landing him halfway to home. However, the genius 1st base umpire told the runner to go to 3rd. This did not sit well with the male-gendered players on our team. A couple of them got really upset, but then realized that it wasn't a game-changing play. Just a stupid call. Anyway, so we get up to bat at the top of the 7th. We get an out, and then someone hit an over-the-fence homerun (we're still losing at this point). The rule is that a new or like-new ball must be thrown out to the pitcher to replace a lost ball. However, we had 2 outs left of the season, so why waste a perfectly good brand new ball for, in all likelihood, 3 batters. The pitcher told Scott to throw him a new ball because his team couldn't see the other one. Now, my thought is, if his team couldn't see it in the air, what makes him think that we could see it in the pitch, but whatever. Scott asked him if we could just play with it, using the above said argument. The pitcher then said no followed by "You don't want none of this." Really? Are we high school? Whatever. Needless to say, we lost and no one was happy. Here are some pictures of Thursday.

Pictures Lauren took.

Randomness

This bug landed on our blanket and camped out there for awhile, until Lauren decided that she wanted to pet it.

The team photo. I think it's dust that is making all those spots on the picture.

Then, Saturday, we ended our church men's league with a mercy loss. We were suppose to play the last Saturday in August, but our coach, who is also the commissioner, didn't realize that the rec dep't had changed the locks on the light box, which is a bad thing when the game starts at 8:00. By the time they got a guy from the rec dept down to the field and opened up the box, it was getting dark. However, the lights would come on for 3-5 seconds and then shut off. To make a long story short, we were at the field until 8:45 and never played a softball game. Anyway, the game got rescheduled for this past Saturday. We ended up losing 10-0. It was pathetic, but the kids enjoyed the fresh air. Lauren also came up with a cute saying. Now, since it's slow-pitch softball, if a guy doesn't swing at the ball, that usually means that it's a ball (as opposed to a strike) to which someone, usually Scott, hollers out "Good eye! Good eye!" Well, one of the guys actually struck out looking (he didn't want to pop out so he just watched a 3-2 pitch). Anyway, all of a sudden from behind me I hear a little voice holler out "Goo eye! Goo eye!" Hey, at least she understands that you only watch obvious balls. :) Here are pictures from Saturday.
