The many types of tears

Oh what a week! I'm finally back...again. Well, when I last left off in blogging, I mentioned how Lauren wrote on Ryan's wall with a Sharpie. (Still there. I've tried the suggestions, and it fades somewhat, but still is very much there and sticks out.) Well, the next day, Friday, picked up where Thursday left off. Lauren ended up stabbing herself with a knife. Once again, I'm sure you're thinking, keep the knife out of her reach. However, it was at the back of the stove. Lauren wanted an orange. I told her to wait just a minute, so she went over to the stove and put the orange down. Then she went and got the step stool and climbed up onto the oven to reach across the stove to grab the knife. She pierced the orange straight through into her pinkie. She learned her lesson, though. She no knows to not touch knives. I think she's one of those kinestetic learners that only learns lessons by working with her hands to prove lessons. Well, lesson learned. It's healing nicely. Happy birthday to Ryan! (Yah, it was Ryan's birthday last Friday.)

Then, Saturday brought cold temperatures. I guess that's what happens when I brag about our warm weather to those still buried under snow up north. It was frigid. With the cool temps, came the rain. (I think our severe drought is gone now.) Yuck!!! Where was that 80 degree weather from the few days before.

Then, Lauren started swim lessons on Tuesday. (I'm not going to go through another summer with 2 kids climbing all over me in the water. One of them would surely drown.) Well, apparently, a bunch of people showed up that hadn't registered. There were to be 6-8 students in the class. Well, there were 14!! Oops! They will now divide the class into 3 smaller classes. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Then there was Thursday. What a day! I took Ryan for his annual haircut. Like I've explained in previous posts, I cut my kids' hair. However, for a special treat, I get their hair cut by a professional before their birthday pictures. Ryan gets the "traditional boy" cut. Short at the bottom and tapered up to a bit longer on top. Last year, I paid $10. A bit steep, but hey, I knew it was a good cut. Well, this year I was in for a shock. On a small piece of paper taped near the cash register was the prices. However, I didn't see this until I went to pay. Here's the price break down. Girls- 0-2- $10, 3-5- $15, 6-7- $something ridiculous! Boys 0-17- $19. Yah. That's right. $20 for a boys haircut!!! I thought that surely, since I had such a small amount cut off that I could get it for 1/2 price again. Keep dreaming. Yep, I paid $20 for his haircut. Needless to say, that's the last time he's going there. I still have issues with the girls' prices, but they at least get a wash, cut, dry, and style (usually including a barrette or something). I feel like it's a special treat for her, so I'll fork out the dough. However, Ryan is not as fortunate. It's Great Clips for him.

If that wasn't enough, Lauren's 1st t-ball game was to be Thursday night. However, with all the aforementioned storms, her game got canceled. She handled it pretty well. I think her parents, and Grandma who made a special trip down from MI just to see her play, were more disappointed that she is. Oh well. Sunny skies are back, so hopefully that means she'll play this week.

Friday, the storms got worse. Our router and modem got hit by lightning, zapping our internet & phone connections. Thankfully, with Vonage, we have our calls routed to Scott's cell phone, so we didn't miss calls. However, I was lost without email & internet.

Saturday was Ryan's birthday party. However, due to work conflicts, it was the 4 of us, my mom and Ryan's 1 friend and his mom. Good times. However, Ryan had fun and that's all that matters.

I think life is back to normal, whatever that is. I will post more later.
