It's moments like these that make all that sibling rivalry and constant bickering worthwhile. It was noticeably quiet upstairs a couple weeks ago. Always nervous, I went up to check on them. Lauren was "getting Ryan ready for bed" even though they had just gotten up less than 30 minutes prior to this. She was rocking him and then she informed me that she was going to "jump him in bed" (it's a little thing we do to toss the kids in bed). Anyway, it was so nice to see smiles on both of their faces. Right now, they are typical 2 and 3 year olds and typical brother and sister, constantly trying to annoy and bug each other. However, the Lord is gracious and just when you're ready to put them out on the streets, they go and do something sweet for each other. (Notice the black Sharpie still on the wall. I tried every method to get it off the walls. I finally came to grips with the fact that the builders used cheap paint to cover the drywall. The only way that I won't see it any more is to paint over it with some primer. Oh well. That being said, every night when we rock Ryan, he points to the wall and says, "Lauren colored the wall. We don't color the walls, do we?" "No we don't" "Nooooo. No coloring walls." At least he learned his lesson.)
That afternoon, during naptime, I heard him out of bed, but I knew that he was tired, so I didn't get after him. I knew that he would crash eventually. Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have let him play all afternoon without "resting" in bed. I'm not suicidal. I was going to go get him if he didn't go to sleep after a while. Anyway, I finally noticed it was quiet in his room. I cracked open the door. He fell asleep on his rocking chair. Apparently, he was too busy to make it back to bed. Oh well. It makes for a good picture.
