I'll start with Ryan. He's been crawling like crazy. In the past couple of weeks, he went from the Army-esk crawl to a regular hands-and-knees crawl. Now, there's no stopping him. In fact, he's now trying to stand up on everything. However, he's had a touch of RSV since last Wednesday. He's doing better now, though, but still has a little cough.

Then, there's Lauren. Some of you know that Lauren's had severe diarrhea since she's been eating solid food. I thought it might have been some sort of food allergy, but the allergy test came back negative. Her pediatrician said that it was probably just the "toddler diet." After changing some stuff, it still didn't go away. At one point, when Lauren wasn't gaining weight, we thought she had Celiac's disease, but then she started gaining some weight. Anyway, finally, I had it with our pediatrician, and took her to see another one. She felt a mass in Lauren's stomach. Apparently, what happened was when Lauren was so anemic at 9 months (her hemoglobin was 8.5!), we threw all sorts of iron down her throat and her body wasn't prepared to get all of that iron at once. Well, apparently, it caused a backup in her system. Since her 9 mo checkup, we've made sure that she has lots of iron, which only added to the problem. This new doctor took an x-ray of Lauren's stomach and saw a huge mass of stool. Now, we're giving her all sorts of fiber to help the mass disintegrate. She also is not to have vitamins with iron in them. She goes back in a month for a recheck of her hemoglobin and another x-ray. So, although we've been going through the diapers like crazy, it's good to know that we may have solved the problem. Poor kid. In the past 2 weeks, she's had a catheter (it's a long story!), x-ray, and finger stick.

Also, Karen & Cynetta, I have that "Silverware" song stuck in my head. Everytime I hear Silver Bells, I still keep singing the dishwash version.
Well, I think that's the major stuff. Other things have happened, but I'm running out of time. Also, I'm sorry to say, but this may wind up being my last post until after Christmas. Like most of you, life around here is going to be insane until after the holidays. My deepest apologies to my few faithful readers.

Wow Susan, that is a lot of stuff going on! I am sorry that all that is happening! Hopefully Lauren will get better and Ryan also!!!
Oh, I hope she feels better soon. I have to ask, Who is your OLD pediatrician? Just curious? Hope things start looking better and that you have a merry Christmas!
I COMPLETELY forgot the silverware song, but thanks for reminding me and ruining Silver Bells for me forever! :-)
I do check your blog, and am glad when you update, though not so happy about all your recent drama. I hate it when the little ones are sick! Poor Lauren! Maybe you should just go ahead and take her to a gastroenterologist. They specialize in that region. (which makes me wonder if anyone ever goes to med school with the ambitions to aspire in the GI field. Who wants to do 18 colonoscopies per day?!) That reminds me of a fantastic song that I once heard- you can listen to it here: http://f2.org/snd/colo-surgeon-abcrn-20030818.mp3
(BE WARNED-- SLIGHTLY TWISTED MEDICAL HUMOR)
Praying for you all, especially little Lauren! Hope your New Year brings lots of HEALTH!
