19 Forever

Well, some of the disadvantages of living in the South is that their sports coverage is severely lacking in some of our favorite teams. This was brought to the forefront of our attention after we missed the raising of Steve Yzerman's jersey at the Joe. Thank goodness for online pictures of the event. My family is a huge hockey family (I think it's a rite of passage for the boys to play at least one season of hockey. That's something else that Ryan won't be able to do if the Lord keeps us down here.) and I really miss watching Hockey Night in Canada. However, as withdrawal symptoms usually go, the pull of the need of my hockey fix grows less and less, until I'm back in Detroit during hockey season. Then, it starts all over again. That being said, since we live so far away, I tend to still picture life up in MI the way that it used to be. Scotty Bowman will forever be the coach and Steve Yzerman will be the captain. (Both changes occurred after we moved away.) However, if anything good can come from Yzerman's retirement, it's that my mom's buddy Nick Lidstrom is the new captain. He has some big skates to fill, but I think he can do it. If we ever get to watch a game on tv, we'll miss seeing #19 on the ice, but we'll know that it's still there, just several yards above the ice.
